Abstract The Communist Manifesto points out that while the bourgeoisie initiates modernization and promotes social progress, it also brings about drawbacks such as the materialization of production relations, the loss of human independence, and unequal international relations. Marx and Engels pinned the task of future modernization on the proletarian party which represents the most advanced productive forces. The Chinese path to modernization led by the Communist Party of China not only possesses the general characteristics of modernization but also has Chinese characteristics. It is surpassing the drawbacks of Western modernization and opening up a new path for socialist modernization.
