Abstract The construction of New Liberal Arts aims to deepen the integration of traditional humanities and natural sciences, driving educational innovation through interdisciplinary approaches. In the field of English teaching, the New Liberal Arts concept not only provides a new developmental trajectory for the reform of English education in applied universities, but also contributes to the modernization of the educational system to a certain extent. Under the perspective of New Liberal Arts, innovative English teaching emphasizes the cultivation of language talents with multidisciplinary knowledge backgrounds. It requires that teaching models should align with the pace of the times, and promote the specialization and distinctiveness of English education through optimizing teaching structures and strengthening the collaborative development path of disciplines. Based on the interpretation and characteristic analysis of the concept of New Liberal Arts, this paper proposes targeted innovation paths for existing problems in college English teaching, which is used to further optimize the paradigm reconstruction of college English courses in applied universities and ultimately to foster an overall enhancement of our nation’s higher education institutional strength.
