Abstract In a local engineering college with distinct characteristics in chemical industry, the practical teaching process will be closely related with high temperature, high pressure, flammable, explosive, toxic and harmful factors, therefore, there are some problems in the operation of the experiment, such as the great destruction and the high cost of the experiment. On the basis of analyzing the problems, the researchers put forward the necessity of setting up virtual simulation experiment teaching platform with the consideration of the following three aspects: safety and environmental protection, practical superiority, and engineering certification. Through the integration of the existing resources in Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology, the teaching system of virtual simulation experiment with distinctive professional characteristics and innovation is established and a wide range of application of virtual simulation projects in the safety of professional experimental teaching and practice has been achieved.
