Abstract It is crucial for traditional majors in local engineering colleges to keep up with the trend of emerging engineering construction and development, and to enhance their practical ability of innovation and entrepreneurship. Only by understanding the historical background of the construction of emerging engineering actively, recognizing the current situation of cultivating the innovation and entrepreneurship ability of the undergraduates in traditional majors and exploring the way to improve their innovation and entrepreneurship ability in local engineering colleges, can we cultivate the application-oriented engineering and technical talents who are more adaptable to the new requirements in the fields of new technologies and industries in the new era.
