With the continuous improvement of the national requirements for the quality of higher education, it is an urgent task for local application-oriented universities to reform the training mode of innovative talents. The undergraduate tutorial system is an effective mode recognized at home and abroad to improve the quality of undergraduate training. This paper discusses the current situation and main problems in the implementation of the undergraduate tutorial system and puts forward the application reform strategy of local application-oriented undergraduate universities in the major of material science and engineering, which is to provide reference for the comprehensive implementation of tutorial system for undergraduates.
