Charles Dickens is a famous British Victorian critical realism novelist. Among his many short stories, there are much detailed description of the space about cities, streets and residence. The space is not only the background of the story, foiling characters emotions, at the same time, it reflects the characteristics of era, promotes the development of the plot, enhances the theme of stories. Dickens depicts the geographical space of Victorian London with satirical humor, through which it reveals the author’s infinite sympathy and care for the people at the bottom of the society, and praises the pure goodness of human nature, thus reflecting the rich spiritual space of the protagonists, and inspiring people’s constantly questioning spirit toward truth and humanity. The interpretation of spatial writing in Dickens’ short stories is an indispensable perspective to explore his works and also a new way to enter the creative space of this great writer.
