Abstract The cetylpyridinium-chloride-modified magnetic diatomite were prepared and characterized by FTIR. It is used for the removal of dye methyl orange in waste water. The influence of time, pH, temperature, and other conditions on the adsorption properties of CPC-magnetic diatomite is studied. The kinetics model of adsorption corresponds to pseudo-second-order kinetics. The isothermal adsorption model showed that the adsorption was in accordance with the Langmuir model.
