Honesty and trustworthiness have always been the basic moral norms respected and praised by the Chinese nation. However, in the days when mankind's material wealth has been greatly enriched, in the face of various temptations from various social interests, some people seem to have forgotten the quality that has been one of the consensus of the Chinese nation since ancient tines: honesty. The analysis of a series of social phenomena reveals that in the current society, the mainstream social values of human beings have begun to gradually suffer from the influence of wrong social ideologies in the context of the development of the society, which is often regarded as a wrong view of righteousness and benefit influenced by Western mercantilism and utilitarianism In this paper, the author elaborates on the issues related to the traditional view of righteousness and profit, it's influence on Confucian merchants and analyses the compatibility of Confucian merchants' spirit with modern economy.
