Abstract The measures taken to cultivate media literacy in the College English reading class are expounded in
the paper．College English teachers can make use of various medium means and thinking elements， correlate
textual media information and connect discourse teaching so as to excite students’cognitive motivations，
develop their discrimination power，mobilize them to participate in the real textual communication and improve
their linguistic learning effect and cultural cognition．The significance，contents and specific steps for developing
media literacy ability are described and explained． It is proposed that media literacy should be one of the
teaching methods for teachers， the exploring leaning way for students， the critical thinking， and the lifelong
beneficial way for conducting oneself well，self-monitoring and self-assessment for students．
