Abstract The fundamental problem of cultivating new engineering talents is ability training, and computer programming ability is an important ability required by new engineering talents. In view of the difficulty of students' programming ability training in C language teaching, it is necessary to implement C language teaching reform. Three C language scaffolding teaching models are designed and employed in teaching and the teaching effect proved that the scaffolding C language teaching assists the improvement of the students' programming thinking and programming ability.
