Microwave synthesis of imidazole ionic liquids containing biphenyl group |

Abstract Two imidazole inoic liquids containing biphenyl group [Cph-phC-Min]Br and [Cph-phC-Min-C]Br), were synthesized from 4,4'-biphenol, 1-bromododecane, 1,10-dibromodecane, N-methylimidazolium, and imidazole with microwave irradiation and the optimal conditions have been studied. The results showed that the yield of two products is 24.4% and 33.1% when N-alkyl imidazole and bromothane molar ratio 2:1 with microwave power is 80 W and reaction time 5 min, respectively. Compared with traditional methods, the reaction conditions in this study are easy to implement without inert gas protection, and the reaction time is shortened from 24 h to 5 min. The structure of ionic liquids containing biphenyl group was verified by IR and 1H NMR.
