Abstract The mechanism，evolution of centrifugal pellet dryer and the wide application in drying pellet in granulation for petrochemical and food processing are reviewed. One typical dryer structures，the Gala model is reviewed. However，the research of quantitative relations of output and drying index with structure size and operational variables is inadequacy. The effects of particle characteristics (such as material, shape, surface structure) on dry effect, output and noise are not quantitatively studied. The structural study of the rotor is limited to laboratory-level equipment. Thus，theoretical research is urgent for choosing appropriate type and size of dryer and developing more effective and highly productive machines for wider engineering use.
