Abstract As one of the meta-functions， interpersonal function plays a very important role in SystemicFunctional Grammar．Interpersonal function is mainly embodied through mood and modal metaphor．Based on
the theory of interpersonal grammatical metaphor，this paper makes a contrastive analysis between part one and
part three in the novel Before I Go to Sleep so as to figure out the difference of the distribution of the grammatical
metaphor in the two parts and find out the heroine’s personality changes and psychological changes．Besides，it
also finds out the function of grammatical metaphor in shaping characters and verifies the feasibility of SFG in
discourse analysis．
