Catalytic Performance of Sulfonic Acid Resins on the Transalkylation of Dinonylphenol with Phenol |

Abstract The transalkylation of dinonylphenol with phenol was carried out using a batch reactor with sulfonie
acid io-exchange polystyrene resin as catalysts.The composition and mechanical properties of sulfonated resin
were characterized by FTIR and particle strength test. Results show that the optimal reaction condition is as
follows: reaction temperature,150~ 155 ℃ ; phenol: nonylphenol ( molar ratio) ,10 1; catalyst dosage,10wt%;
reaction time,3~ 3.5 h.In this case,the conversion of dinonylphenol is above 90% and the yield of nonylphenol
is above 70%.By this process,dinonylphenol,the by-product of nonylphenol industry process,could be utilized
effectively.The economic benefits of the nonylphenol industry device would be improved.
